History - Origin of the Name Maluso
In the early years Maluso was originally called “Tinggilan” by its native settler. The name “Tinggilan” was so coined because in those times the poblacion was a swampy place and people used the floated logs and woods as pathways. The old folks still refer to the poblacion in this name.

Accordingly, Maluso got its name from the Spanish words “Mal-uso”. The word came about because, understandably these “conquistadores” do not conform and understand the ways and culture of the native, thus they called it “Mal-uso”, which means “bad way, usage or traits”. And so up to this day the name Maluso remains.
